Program Description

Event Details

This 44-minute screening of selections from the documentary The U.S. and the Holocaust by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein examines the rise of Hitler and Nazism in Germany in the context of global antisemitism and racism, the eugenics movement in the United States, and race laws in the American south.

It also sheds light on what the U.S. government and American people knew and did as the catastrophe unfolded in Europe.

This program will be in the Black Box Theater at the Lafon Performing Arts Center.

A panel discussion will follow, and we will introduce the upcoming Americans and the Holocaust exhibition that will be held at the East Regional Library in Destrehan from December 5, 2025 through January 10, 2026.
